Biting the papasan that fed him ...

In an April 2003 Details magazine article posted on Thom Filicia.com, the design guru from the Fab 5 is quoted, in a half page blurb about his firm, talking negatively about the ubiquitous supplier of beaded throw pillows that pays him to be their spokesman:

'Although you could decorate your pad with a quick trip to Pier 1, Filicia doesn't recommend it. "And you could probably sew your own leg up if you cut it."'

I guess that was before he signed the endorsement check. (The article ran in April 03 and he signed the endorsement deal in March of 04)

Addendum: Further research has revealed that Filicia will not be re-newed for more tv ads. He is still featured on the Pier 1 web site, though not on the splash page.

Thom Filicia, the design ace from Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, won't be back, either, after ads featuring him failed to click. The failure of those ads led Pier 1 to change ad agencies, and Deutsch Inc. will have some new ads on the air by March.

Earnings at Pier 1 were about as expected -- well off last year's pace.

Addendum II: This post was picked up by gawker.com on January 13th.
