And then there is Bill (from Philadelphia Weekly):
Lacking the anarchic pants-kicking Gene Hackman brought to The Royal Tenenbaums (his unruly presence makes the film feel like more of a masterpiece every time I watch it), The Life Aquatic is a more cluttered, more foolhardy movie that tries like hell to dodge the sadness at its core. But all the whimsy in the world can't escape the heartbreaking gravitational pull of one William Murray, the best depressed guy in movies today.
Damn, he's good.
