I read Augusten Burrough's second memoir Dry last week. Half way through, I looked on his web site and e-mailed him a comment. he said that he returns all e-mails from readers with "potato" in the subject so he knows it is not spam. The page said that he was on book tour so replies might be a bit delayed.

Well, a few hours later I had finished the book and I had an email form Augusten waiting in my inbox.

It was strange to be lost in a book and then get a response from the author so soon.

If anyone is wondering, the chapter that got nixed from Running With Scissors entitled "Unplugged" that chronicled his sisters havinga fight with a tampon might be included in his 2004 collection of essays/stories called "Magical Thinking".

I was thinking: maybe a handful of all the popular modern humor/memoir writers like Dave Eggers/David Sedaris/Augusten Burroughs/David Rakoff/Sarah Vowell could go on a big introspectivpalooza stadium tour or something.

Burroughs stops by the Brookline Booksmith on July 2nd.
