Today is Gonna Be the Day
Well, all the elaborate plans for my holiday time off have brought me here: The beginning of Saturday night and before you know it it will be Sunday night and then back to work.
Don't Look Back in Anger
The holidays were nice. I think I actually appreciated being around family for the first time. Perhaps it was because my grandfather passed away a few years ago during the super bowl weekend. I greeted people at the funeral home and told them the score. Say one thing for the traditional Irish funeral - you have plenty of chances to say good-bye. I went up to the viewing room many times over the course of the final day and there he was. It kind of made me realize that life goes on no matter what and that you should try to enjoy the time you have.
Tonight, the bespecaled dame I share a flat with - er, the ever lovely fiancee and proud Simmons Graduate School student and I are going to a play in the South End called Far Away at the Boston Center for the Arts. The last play we went to was a surrealist war trauma thingee, and from what I have read this is too.
The Word is on the Street
The Inside Track lead me to this play. As I am want to do, I was checking the Herald's gossip section during lunch and they mentioned the "gay cyper gossiper" who was upsetting people around town with gossip like so and so "was more well endowed than Harvard".
Never being one to shy away from a research challenege, I found that the site was called http://www.hereboston.com. Some of the gossip writing and news reporting is pretty funny and written in a unique voice. So, "Far Away" was advertised on this site and I clicked on the ad and bought two preview tickets.
Wonderwall
So, it should be fun to venture into the vibrant South End from the huddled suburbia of near-by Arlington. I think we will take the train from Central. This will be my first time riding the T since the new 1.25 fare was imposed. Luckily I still have a token in my cluttered wallet.
Oooh Ooh - Baby you can Drive My Car
Yesterday, at about 4:00 pm at the Watertown Mall at the Mass RMV, my car officially became legal to drive again. Through a snowballing of events, my car had become temporarily illegal to drive - thus resulting in me being the most cautious, paranoid driver on the road for a few days. now I sort of want to be pulled over so I can chat about my lovely new registration.
But, after a 45 minute wait in line, I am fully registered and insured and all i have left to do is renew my license by the end of January.
I want to really put some thought into my license photo this time around. I will have to live with it for 5 more years. To keep the goatee or not? What color shirt? Smile? Half-smile? Tshoushe my sleeves?
Frankly, Mr. Shankley
Well - that brings to a close my first posting of the New Year. Tangental ramblings. Check. Brit-Pop cheeky headlines. Check. Over-used meta review of what I just wrote. Check.
